The Technology
Our collaboration has now demonstrated rugged, low capital cost infrastructure capable of producing large quantities of seaweed, with low disturbance to the seafloor and novel materials to ensure the safety of marine mammals.
The Advantages
The Aquafield is a low-cost, high-yield, modular farm design scalable to deep water and high energy ocean conditions, with innovations that include lattice mooring design, multiline helical anchors, robotic anchoring, marine mammal safety features, and passive, pipe-less nutrient upwelling. A 2×2 array was recently deployed in fully exposed offshore conditions in the Gulf of Maine.
